Grand Theft Auto Brings Back the Classic Top-Down Perspective for Next Week's Game

As gamers still wait for a true Grand Theft Auto co-op experience, Rockstar Games keeps providing us with smaller snippets to whet our appetite. GTA IV has three co-op missions, complete with integrated story and acting. The latest GTA game, Chinatown Wars on the Nintendo DS, is a bit different. The ambitious series returns to its roots of top-down mayhem, this time in portable form. Sadly, we still don't get a story based co-op mode, but we do get some social co-op options and six co-op scenarios to hold us over.

Grand Theft Auto, better known as GTA, needs no introduction. The series takes its name from the legal term for stealing a car, and is, quite fittingly, all about criminals who mostly commit grand theft auto. In many ways, the game glorifies the criminal lifestyle. Players are encouraged to create mayhem, whether that entails running over pedestrians, robbing banks, or shooting cops. The over-the-top violence found in the series may be a little too much for some, but believe it or not, most of it is there to serve a purpose.
